It was a
tragic day in fourth grade today. Students
solemnly (week 4 vocab word) gathered in Ms. Prose's classroom this morning. After much
consternation (week 5 vocab word), Ms. Prose and Ms. Leom were
downcast to share the news. The words, "nice", "good", "great", "cool", and "awesome" are now
Resting In Peace (R.I.P.). Near tears, Ms. Prose and Ms. Leom explained these words were worn out, overused, and boring. It is time to
recruit a more
extensive collection of words to communicate our thinking.
The ceremony:
As Ms. Leom hums the funeral durge (and not quite in tune) ... Ms. Prose lays down to demonstrate the burial of the words.
Ms. Leom explained that students may choose to use these words when they are with their friends, at home with family, and in life in general, but from this point forward, we will
commence using more descriptive words in our writing, classroom discussions, and fourth grade learning as a whole.
Ms. Prose popped up from her worn-out, overused rest to ask some helpful questions ...
Such as
* What if I am talking about a student, and they really are
nice? (Use a synonym)
* What if I don't know any synonyms? (Use a thesaurus, dictionary, poster to help you)
* What will happen if I write "nice"? (You will get your paper back to fix, or it will be marked wrong.)
Rest in Peace our friends ... we are
reminiscent of our time together. We are
serenely,
pensively ready for a more
vivid word learning experience!
(Special Thanks to the Lesson 5 Vocabulary Word list. The only words missed was "culinary".)
