Laptops

A few days ago, Ms. Leom blogged about the Odyssey computer program and shared pictures of the students accessing the information from one of two of our computer labs in the elementary. A few entries before that, she shared pictures using an iPad in the classroom for dictionary and thesaurus learning. This week, we were able to pull the Laptop cart into our classroom to access Odyssey. Here are pictures from two days of our learning.

Each student was assigned a number in the beginning of the school year. It is their classroom cubby number and on the inside of their OSCAR folder. This number is also the computer that students use in the computer lab and on the laptop cart.

Students carry the computers to their spot in the room, access Odyssey, and type in their user name and password.

Last year, our testing data indicates, Milaca fourth grade students need to work on comprehending informational text. Ms. Leom was able to use student MAP Reading scores to select the specific lesson at student's learning level in informational text skills. Students begin with a lesson. There is a video related to the skills they are learning. Then there are activities at their level. Students have two opportunities successfully complete a lesson at 70% before they can move ahead.

We would LOVE to have parent input and feedback on the Odyssey learning program. You can Google "Odyssey" and select:

Then, on the log-in screen, ask your fourth grader to use their sticky note (in the back of his/her planner) to input their user name and and password. The school is "milaca elem".
Ms. Leom can track student learning and progress. We only have another two week window on our trial license. There are several Language Arts trial lessons. We want students to be working on the "informational text" option.

We LOVE the technology that is available to our students, and we look forward to the possibilities in the future!
