In student planners, September 17 is known as "Constitution and Citizenship Day". Ms. Leom's class recognized the day by starting with a little School House Rock

Next we read a book about the Declaration of Independence and the early history of our country.

Then, we talked about the details. Ms. Leom pulled down the world map, and we made connections. In a class discussion, we also clarified information that students commented on as we read.
Finally, we talked about our role as citizens. Citizenship is one of our school character traits. It is also an important skill as a member of the United States of America. In November, citizens in our country will have the opportunity to vote. It is our responsibility to look at the issues determine the candidate that best represents our values.
