Mr. Greninger

Since this post is labeled, "Mr. Greninger", you might think it was all about him ... rather, today was the first day we switched classes. Mr. Greninger had students work on a Remembering page to review their skills. Although calculators are a fourth grade school supply, they will only be used for specific learning activities later in the year. No calculators today (although we did see a few students try to use this tool). Since I was thrilled to meet his students, I missed out on any photographs of the math learning in his room.

(If you are a Ms. Leom's student's parent, you still want to read this entry. There is details that apply to your students too!)

Mr. Greninger's students and I met. We passed out name tags for their work space, and I had made them each their own individual book mark. We learned all about the "Rockstar of the Week" (me), and selected our first fourth grade rockstar for next week. We talked about supplies we needed for Communications class. We made our "On Tour T-shirts" and collected our first badges (for Open House, Pictures, and completing the summer reading calendars). Then, we spent fifteen quality minutes demonstrating our cursive writing skills.

At Milaca Elementary, students learn to cursive write in third grade. In fourth grade, we review the basic strokes of undercruve, downcurve, overcurve, and slant. We'll talk about the "Four Ss": shape, size, space, and slant. Then we review each letter.  There will not be a lot of class time to complete the cursive writing in class. If students participated in the lesson, many will be successful with their practice on their own. Students will be encouraged to work on when their classroom teacher reads to the class or during set aside work time.

As you can see, the students were hard at work. Their effort was evident!

Next, we wrote in our planners. Students had the assignment to fill in their address and other information in their planners. We will be working on memorizing our addresses and using them throughout the school year. Addresses are important to fourth grade students. Many of our students are more social. They may need to share their address for a ride home or in an emergency, a student may need to confirm their address for emergency personal.

It was fun to meet the rest of my 52 students!
