To improve in any skill, you need to practice it. It helps if you feel
motivated, inspired, find value in the activity, and it is fun. We want
fourth graders to improve as writers. To motivate and inspire, we make
our journals our own. We start by applying masking tape.
Then we add brown shoe polish to give it an old world, worn look.
We need to let the shoe polish dry. We will label the journals soon.
Then, we add the checklist. Each journal entry needs to have a: date, title, indent, half page entry, and be on the same topic. Journal entries are graded. They are worth five points each.
This year, Ms. Leom added ink. Students will be invited to select a color and write their journal entries. Ms. Leom's class was able to journal today. Their first entry was about fourth grade.
We are writers.
