PIE Day

Today was PIE Day, another exciting extravaganza (aka - learning party) in fourth grade. We've been talking about Author's Purpose and Perspective. Author's Purpose are the reasons author's write: to Persuade, to Inform, and to Entertain. An extravaganza helps our memories absorb our learning.

We started our learning with pies from Teal's market. Each flavor was represented on a plate. Then the learning began!
* students tasted pies and graphed their favorite flavor (entertainment & inform)
* students created chef's hats (entertain)
* students read an article about pie (inform)
* students used a book order to find an example of each purpose and write a detail to support and explain how it fit that purpose (persuade)

Our high school helper taught this table how to make their hats

We still need to wrap up our PIE Day learning, review our extravaganza activities, and make connections. We ran out of time for this most important of learning steps. It will be one of our first activities for Monday.

Just another hat we wear to develop our learning and understanding!
