Pretzels

Today is Wednesday. After two days of book project presentations, we have a lot of learning to complete in the next few days. We took notes on Vocabulary Week 8. We read a story that uses the words. We started our assignment to practice our application of the vocabulary words. Then student pacing dramatically shifted ... some students were nearly finished in the first four minutes, another group hadn't even finished the first example.

So Ms. Leom decided it was the perfect day for Fun Spelling with Pretzels. She quickly modeled the expectation, then sent students back to their learning areas to finish their vocabulary practice. When they finished, she came around to check their work. Everyone was working at warp speed now. Students were asked to fix any details before they could move ahead, so everyone also earned the best score.

Students grabbed a plate, four pretzel sticks, and four pretzel twists ... let the Spelling Lesson 8 practice begin!

After our pretzel work, students were invited to eat their learning while we read about our focus skill this week, Author's Purpose and Perspective, before we split into groups to read our story this week, a play, "Three Little Cyber Pigs". A packed hour of learning for students in Ms. Leom's class!

When Mr. Greninger's class finished book projects, we also took Vocabulary Lesson 8 notes, read the words in a short story, and practiced our using our words on a vocabulary assignment. As students finished, they made corrections until the work reflected their best learning, and they also had the opportunity to writing their Lesson 8 Spelling words with pretzels.

Mr. Greninger's class enjoyed eating their pretzels as we started Flex Reading. Another day of flexible learning!
