Veteran's Day

We started talking about Veteran's Day on Friday. We read a short article and answered some questions. We are really working on looking for key words in the question, and finding the answer in the text.

Today, we worked on making cards for service men and women in the Iraq and Afganistan region. Ms. Aren's hooked us up to a company who is in need of some attention from home. Each student wrote and designed a card. We will send our cards, in a box filled with "necessities" from home, and ship it to our troops. Ms. Aren's contact will share our cards with service members who may not receive a lot of mail.






Then, we continue to develop our reading Informational Text skills. Students are using a packet on Veteran's Day and American Symbols: songs (Taps, Star Spangled Banner), the American Bald Eagle, poems (In Flanders Fields), the flag, and more to answer questions. They are able to work with partners. Using headings, pictures, captions, diagrams, timelines, and more will be necessary t
