Sledding

This morning, we walked to Rec Park to sled. It was one of the best Valentine Days for sledding any of the fourth grade teachers could remember. We had blue skies, warmer temperatures, and fresh snow. It was a fun day to spend together with our friends!

We appreciate our parents and the extra time and effort they shared so we could go sledding today. We know there were some scheduling and juggling that happened to make it work! Our parents rock!

Theme

Our focus skill (comprehension strategy) this week and next week is Theme. We have many practice opportunities to develop this skill.

Earlier this week, we read about Theme in our text book. We read our story, "Hewitt Anderson's Great Big Life" and found the theme in our story.

In Flex Reading this week, we are developing Theme.

Today, Ms. Leom worked with the class, using a Theme Graphic Organizer to model finding the theme (lesson) of the story, using a book we have all read on the board.

Then she read us a book. We talked about character traits, drawing conclusions (past focus skills), and theme ...

Next, it was time for us to showcase our theme understanding ...

Our Theme learning will continue throughout next week, and the remainder of the school year.
