Video Conference

In the Fall, with the help of Mrs. Vickers, our elementary media specialist, Ms. Leom started the Maude Hart Lovelace Book Club. Mrs. Vickers helped get us copies of the books. We started reading. Ms. Leom read to us. We could read books independently. Some students read in small group.

In early April, with more help from Mrs. Vickers, students who read three or more books were invited to fill out a Google Form to vote for our favorite book.

On Friday April 27th, we were able to join a Video Conference with History Live for a Zoom Event. We learned about Minnesota author, Maude Hart Lovelace.
waiting for our event to start
SO PROUD of the participation of both classes!!
A woman played the part of Maude Hart Lovelace, sharing real items from her life, and bringing her stories to life!

After a question and answer session, we reviewed the books that were being considered this year for the 2018 Maude Hart Lovelace Book Award ...

In third place ... Dinosaur Boy ... in second place, Turn Let at the Cow ... and in first place ... Fort.

SO EXCITING!! What a great opportunity to wrap up this near-school-year-long reading event! As the first year, there were some lessons to be learned (for Ms. Leom and Mrs. Vickers). There are two different categories of books and awards (grades 3-5 and grades 6-8). This is an activity that can be available to interested readers next year ... This was Ms. Leom's first Video Conference learning event ever!! SO THANKFUL to be able to experience it with such a RESPECTFUL group of students!!

Also extra special thanks to Mrs. Vickers. These opportunities couldn't have happened without her support and encouragement!!

Science Museum

On Thursday April 26th, we went to the Science Museum of Minnesota, on the Mississippi River, in St. Paul.

the bus ride
Our first stop at the Science Museum was to watch the Omni Movie, Dream Big. Then we went to lunch.

We enjoyed playing on the musical staircase ...

Then we had time to enjoy, explore, play, and learn ... but those stairs kept calling us back to play ...

We loved being able to visit the Lego exhibit.

The tornado exhibit moved this year. It is always so fascinating to watch and safe to get close and touch.

Race a dinosaur in the Sportsology area ...

Some images from our day at the museum ... BIG THANKS to our chaperones for their availability, their time, and their skills in enjoying time with fourth graders! We are thankful to the adults who volunteered, and we were not able to bring this round. Your willingness is also appreciated!!

Testing Advice

This week, announcements featured some testing advice from some "local" experts:

Mrs. Hakes-Anderson, Ms. Leom, Mrs. Arens, and Mr. Lyon
Way to work hard, fourth graders, on your MCA Math Tests! We are proud of you!!

Six Minutes

What is a teacher to do when her students follow directions right away and you have six extra minutes ... ?

Pretty sure it is just enough time to view some sunshine and make a quick trip to the playground!

Not one person complained about six minutes of sunshine! Hope we have the weather and time to do it again!!
