a NE Note

As we are finishing up the Northeast Questions, this week, we learned about the Northeast Notes.

Ms. Leom modeled what we need to do to to be successful for "notes" in Social Studies. We are invited to read about the information of the Northeast, and record three facts or details that are interesting to us. In the box, we are invited to draw a picture, with color, of the most interesting fact. In this way, we get to direct our learning.

We generally plan for one class day per page of notes. We are able to highlight or use sticky notes to identify the text we want to record.

Just a note about the Northeast Notes.

Ms. (Mr.) Teacher

In our classroom, there are opportunities to learn, every time we open a book! One exciting event we value in our classroom is when students take the strategies and skills we are learning in class and SEE it IN application somewhere else! It can be a spelling word that is in a book their reading, a vocabulary term that is in a text for another class, a map of the Northeast States in a book we are using small group instruction that relates to Social Studies, the overlaps are amazing and exciting!!

When it happens, we invite the many teachers that are in our room to step up and teach the class ... just be aware, Ms. Leom might just be in her student role ...

Reading Buddies

Ms. Leom's homeroom reads with first grade's Mrs. Anderson. Today our reading buddies came down, and we shared our EPIC reading app with them.

Personal Narratives

This week, we are learning about our second genre study, personal narratives.

We always start with the goals.
 We took some notes.

We read several examples of personal narratives and analyzed the texts. Working with our peers and discussing our findings is helpful to our learning and understanding.

You may notice inaccuracies in our building background knowledge. All ideas are welcome and accepted. During our reading, we work to clarify our learning.

It is exciting to hear students talk about the text and their learning!
