Growing Up

The boys went to Mr. Greninger's class room. He continued with the learning day. The girls came to Ms. Leom's classroom where a nurse from Public Health spoke about growing up.

P&G put out a video, "Always Changing-Girls" that was shown during her presentation. She also talked about the changes, acne, basic hygiene (shower regularly and brush your teeth twice a day), and answered questions. The girls were encouraged to take their more complicated or new questions home to ask their parents. We explained that sometimes parents don't know how to start the conversation, but were often willing to do their best to answer questions.

Still At It

We still meet regularly for our Olweus meetings. Olweus is the curriculum and plan in place in the Milaca Schools to be proactive to teach students skills to communicate and prevent bullying.

Ms. Leom's class had their meeting at the start of the day. At the end, students could choose to share about their weekend plans.

Tornado Drill

At 1:45 on Thursday April 14th, we participated in the state-wide tornado drill. It was silent and this is what it looked like in our corner of the world.

Extra Recess

It was such a beautiful day ... and we've been patiently waiting for this warmer weather, so we went outside for an early recess today. Sometimes, you just need a little sun on your face and wind in your hair.

Swimming

On Thursday April 14th we had our swimming reward. Students needed to have all their work completed. They need more circles and initials than punches on their Responsibility Cards, and they needed to have their permission slips signed and returned. We love visiting the high school pool!

Poetry Notebooks

Now that our Poetry Notebook covers are complete, we are getting started on the important details ... setting up the poetry notebook and knowing all the expectations for each page ...

Then we started writing ... our first type of poems are acrostic ... so creative and so fun!

Severe Weather

April is National Severe Weather Awareness month. As we are mod-podging our Poetry Book covers, we can't write IN the book until they dry.

We are using the features of non-fiction texts (headings, titles, pictures, captions, bullets, drawings, and more) to help us answer questions and learn about severe weather at the same time.

Spring is also the time of year that we are more talkative. There are times when we need to be quieter, but this is an opportunity for us to use our voices and work with our classmates.
