Excavation

On March 2, Ms. Leom's flex students started Flex Reading with an "excavation". We are reading a book, Digging Up Tyrannosaurus Rex, and she wanted us to LIVE two of the vocabulary words: excavate and paleontologist.

With chocolate chip cookies as our dig site and toothpicks to simulate the tools a paleontologist uses, we got to work "excavating our fossils". Since there is rarely dirt on fossils, there couldn't be a crumb on our chocolate chips either. It is back breaking work ...

it takes patience

After our excavation, it was time to get started on our novel unit, Digging Up TRex. Students wrote predictions about what they thought the book would be about ... we only "scratched the surface" of our learning!
