Sleds, Sun, Slide

On Wednesday February 28th, we went sledding at Rec Park for our Reward. Mr. Greninger and Ms. Leom went out of the their way to communicate missing homework daily in the planners, organize missing work, and mention it in the weekly newsletter to make sure ALL students could participate. We were close!

There was some usual bumps and bruises that happen when you are paying outside and sleds are moving faster than our usual pace. Teachers intervened and followed up, having some students sit out for a ride or two as needed. It was a great day to be outside and to spend time with our friends making memories!

Fitness Fever

This week, we had Fitness Fever. It is a great change from our daily Phy-Ed learning where we get to spend time with friends from other fourth grade classes. It ends with the tug-o-war.

This year, Mr. Lundeen's class was declared the fourth grade winner of tug-o-war. Great memories!!

Figurative Language

In Writing for the past few weeks, we have been learning about different types of Figurative Language: similes, metaphors, idioms, and more.

Students have been working on a Figurative Language Packet, writing and illustrating an example of each type. We focused on a page a day, with extra work time as needed. The learning was loaded on Google Classroom, so students could access the information, links, and videos as needed to be successful.

We wrapped up our learning by completing Figurative Language Posters. Students were given packets with five pages. The pink page has the terms. The yellow page was the definitions, and there were three blue pages of examples. Students could set up their poster in any direction and determine how they wanted to arrange their information. They could use their notes, Google Classroom, and other sources to work on their posters. Students were encouraged to talk with each other to help support the different questions and share ideas. Ms. Leom walked around the room and gave feedback as well.

It was a fun way to wrap up our learning!

Shelly Bean Sports Queen

On Tuesday February 20th, Shelly Boyu-Breen visited Milaca Schools to share her series with our students.

Breen grew up in Brainerd. She was active and even played four sports in college. She coached Women's Basketball at Augustana before landing a job with the Lynx. Her work with the WNBA landed her an office at Madison Square Garden in New York with the WNBA, before her current move back to Brainerd. Been shared her four published books. She has a new book coming out in two weeks, and she is working on another thirty-plus ideas for future books in her series. SO much FUN!

Leom's Valentine's Day Party

After we went sledding, Ms. Leom's class returned to the classroom to have our class Valentine's Day Party. We have been learning about puns this week, so we were encouraged to find and enjoy the puns that were written in our Valentines.

We enjoyed the cupcakes, the two treats from our bags, then we sent the rest of our treats home! We enjoyed our many creative Valentines!
