Our connections also grow when we spend time together, share experiences, and build memories.
Every time we say something kind, supportive, and helpful, we build a connection.
We don't need an adult to build connections. We each have the power to do it independently.
It is fun to build connections.
Over time, our connections become deeply networked and overlapping.
Sometimes there can form knots, and we figure out a way to problem solve and work around the conflicts. In class, we added new string. Connecting with people can be very colorful, and we can "color outside the lines".
We also talked about what happens if someone has hurt feelings, we talk behind someone's back, or we exclude people. That person (a volunteer in this case), leaves the circle, and when they do, they pull all of our strings, even the outside ones, in ways we didn't know were connected. If the string is pulled hard enough, or with enough force, they can break.
Our Olweus lesson for late March was the web that we are a part of, how it grows, how we keep it healthy, and how it can cut into our lives. We have room for more people to join and be a part of our web. Our school is a web of its own. Our community ... our families ... our county ... state ... country ... world ...
We are working to expand our circle.
