Daily Goal Setting

It is that time of year when our energy levels increase, we are more sensitive and aware of the tone and words from our peers, and the promise of nicer weather entices our attention to daydreaming ... It means we are easily distracted, less than motivated to learn, and our attitudes need more nurturing.

A person could focus on all the issues, or we could focus on what we do well.

We are starting our days with a morning meeting. Some days we share about what we are doing outside of school, other times we talk about issues in school. We sing to our birthday friends, and we talk about the changes in our schedule. Then comes the big deal.

We close our eyes and think about our learning day. What is one thing I can do to make today a successful day? What is one way I can focus? We each have a turn to share. Then we know each other's plan, and we can better support each other.

Today, we wrote our plan on a classroom "ticket" and posted it.

Some of our tickets read,

Even Ms. Leom has a daily goal. Today, she was going to focus on noticing students who were following directions and doing what was right. She walked around at least once every five minutes during work time and gave initials to students on track. Some students earned over NINE initials on their Responsibility Cards!! They were all turquoise initials today. Peek at your fourth grader's card to see how s/he did today. In addition, she gave feedback on what students were doing well; like, including a lot of details, writing neatly, asking questions, and more.

We have six more weeks of school, and we need to work hard to stay focused and use our time to learn. We are counting on everyone to do their part to make each day a successful day of learning!
