We've been working on test prep in Reading and Math. We have been taking extra loops around the elementary to respect our need to move when the expectation has been more focused learning than we like.
In Ms. Leom's class, we've been working on our Olweus (bully prevention) program with extra efforts the past few weeks. We are getting to that "comfortable-been going to school with you for five years-know you like a sibling-Spring fever" phase that has us needing to work on our tone when we talk to each other, our facial expressions and body language (eye rolling and glaring doesn't always read well and can escalate situations that were never intended to be more), and our advocating for ourselves skills.
Advocating for ourselves. We are not mind readers. We don't know when we bug each other. A phrase we say in our home means nothing, but in another home, can be significant. Our steps:
1. Tell how we are feeling. "I feel annoyed."
2. Tell what happened. "The tapping pencil is annoying."
3. Tell what you want. "Please keep the pencil quiet."
We need a lot of practice.
Stay tuned. More events will be added soon!
