This morning, we had Band Instrument Try-Outs in Mr. Garber's band room. Eckroth Music brings in some of their experts. They set up stations, and we visit each station. We learn how to make sounds for each mouth piece, try to make the sound, and received feed back to try again. Each station marks a 1-5 (5 being strong). At the end, students and teachers look at the scores and select a first and second choice of instruments. A copy of the information is available for Mr. Garber, and a copy with additional information is sent home to parents. On Tuesday May 16 at 7:00 PM in Dahlager Theater, at Milaca High School, there is a parent meeting. Families can ask questions, make a decision about what instrument to play, and sign up for band.
Also note, the instrument mouth pieces are sanitized and dried between each player. Several pictures showcase this step.
Mr. Garber greets us at his door and gives us some basic directions.
An Eckroth representative speaks to us and explains the process.
Students begin visiting stations. A short lesson is given before trying out the various instruments.
The percussion center only invites students who have had at least two years of piano.
