Personal Narratives
Our genre study in Unit 2 is Personal Narratives.
We spent several days reading personal narratives. Then we had a longer personal narrative to read and analyze. One of the skills we are developing as fourth grade readers is to reread different texts for different purposes. We read the story, "Spacers, or How I Learned Not to Fear the Orthodontist". The first day, students analyzed the personal fiction text looking for examples of the different features on the text.
The second day, we reread the text and analyzed the text to learn more about the character, looking at thoughts, feelings, and actions, and what these details tell us about the character.
