On Friday May 2, Milaca Elementary welcomed Erin Johnson from Mille Lacs County Public Health to speak to the fourth grade girls about growing up.
Erin talked about your sweat glands, smelling, and the importance of showering. She introduced acne and how washing your face would be helpful to prevent acne. She talked about gaining weight as an important part of girls development, because estrogen lives in fat cells. She talked about the value of eating healthy.
Then she showed a video. She finished by talking to the girls about creating a little personal hygiene pack to bring to school. She helped the girls develop a plan for future scenerios when they
may need their personal hygiene pack, or what to do if you have a male
teacher and need to leave class.
Finally, she ended when an opportunity for questions, encouraging the girls to talk to their moms and dads about future questions.
