Duct Tape ... ?

We heard ALL about the duct tape on the school supply list this year. Our favorite comments were by the students during the first three days of school as they predicted (an important learning skill) with anticipation of what we were going to do with (said with reverence that only a nine/ten year old could pull off ...) duct tape ...

FINALLY, today, we rolled out the duct tape and got started.

One thing we KNOW about working with students, when you want students to be successful, you need to ENGAGE and INSPIRE. Students NEED to create. They need to make things their own. So when students selected a style of duct tape and covered their composition notebooks with it, it makes this notebook special. It is something they created with their own two hands and minds. It is something they are building. It makes it magical.

Tomorrow, we take our duct tape covered composition notebooks and turn them into "Reading Response Journals". We will be using them to develop and practice our reading and comprehension skills. The fourth grade teachers spent many hours (days) this summer researching and developing this learning. We are excited bring this learning opportunity to life and learn along side our students!
