Friday Highlights

In the excitement to cover today's (Monday 9/9) events, we missed the highlights from Friday. It was an exciting day!!

Expectations.
We talked about the classroom rules:
* responsibility
* respect
* honesty
* citizenship
* follow your family rules
We shared examples of each. Students worked in small groups to illustrate a skill for the different rules.

Then we shared them in class. We used this discussion to develop a classroom mission statement, "We will follow the school expectations, because they keep us safe, keep our school together, help us be ourselves, help us feel respected, and help us learn." It is listed on the top of our blog and more importantly, will be posted in our classroom. We will be meeting regularly to develop our classroom learning community.

Cleaning.
Before lunch, we did a well-organized classroom clean up. The look on students faces when they lift up their wipe and notice the dirty hand-print, priceless.

Jammin' Minute.
In an unexpected (to students) surprise, Mrs. Beckman arrived at the end of the day and invited us to join her in leading the Jammin' Minute! For those families who may not be familiar, every week, a new episode of the Jammin' Minute is loaded on the school announcement server (there may be a better vocabulary term for it) for teachers to access when their students need some movement. Last week, the third grade teachers lead the Jammin' Minute. On Friday, OUR CLASS was the FIRST class of the year to lead! Here are some pictures of our prep work for our taping.

Our episode was loaded this morning, and throughout the day, Ms. Leom heard enthusiasm and excitement from students and staff throughout the building who had watched our work. It was only a Jammin' Minute brain break, but we rocked it!

So PROUD and LOVING THIS group of students!! I am looking forward to a successful year of learning!!
