Posters

Sometimes, you just know that students need to work on learning in a spatial sense. They need to stand, kneel, sit, lean, cut, paste, arrange, rearrange, think, twist ... learning is messy. It is loud.

Last week, to learn about our final two types of figurative language, hyperboles and alliteration, as well as reviewing some of our previous learning: similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, and personification, we made posters. Students received a dark pink page of terms, a yellow page of definitions, and three blue pages filled with examples. The learning goal was posted on the board, an example of what it could look like, and students set off to create their own Figurative Language Poster. Extra large paper was available for students who needed more space. It was fun to listen to students talk about the vocabulary and how they were arranging it and what examples they felt went where. There were many different systems in place. Many students chose to spread out on the floor.

Three-quarters of the students finished in under an hour. Students had a minimum of two class hours to complete these posters.

Just a few posters to enjoy
