Today was Valentine's Day. We had several switches occur in the day. First, Ms. Leom's class started the day in Math with Mr. Greninger, and Mr. Greninger's homeroom students started their day in Reading with Ms. Leom.
We had Flex, Specials, Recess, and Lunch as usual. Then we had Reading/Math. Students in Mr. Greninger's class, who celebrate Valentine's Day, packed up their Valentines bags and boxes and settled down to watch "Where the Red Fern Grows", the movie companion to the book he has been reading to the class.
Ms. Leom's students, switched seats, and opened their Valentine Bags. We took time to talk about how many Valentine Day cards are based on examples of Figurative Language, with puns being the most common. Students were encouraged to slow down and READ each Valentine and be appreciative to the students who took the time to make and share the Valentines with them. Students were invited to eat only two pieces of candy, then we started watching "Where the Red Fern Grows".
Both classes still have the end of the movie to watch. Valentine's Day fourth grade style.
