Book Projects

Today, Ms. Leom introduced Book Projects. This are an important learning opportunity for our fourth grade students.

What
Week 1:
* Pick a mystery
* Pick a project

-- Newspaper Front Page
* Complete an Approval Sheet
* Read the Book

Week 2:
* Read the Book

Week 3:
* Work on the Project
-- Use the book
-- Ask questions
-- Quality (no notebook paper or pencils)

Week 4:
* Practice Presenting:
-- Hello. My name is ...
-- Let me tell you about my book ...

When
October 2 - project is introduced
October 2 - Ms. Leom (and Mr. Greninger's) classroom libraries were offered for book options
October 2 - visited the school library, "encouraged" to check out a mystery book
October 4 - Book Project Approval Due
November 4 - Book Project Presentations Begin

Why?
Students are:

* exploring new genres
* considering new books
* developing confidence
* developing organization and time management skills
* developing their speaking skills
* developing their summarizing skills
* showcasing their own creativity, interests, talents, and gifts
* dveloping their listening skills
* having the opportunity to talk about books and their ideas with their families and friends
