There was an article in the Mille Lacs County Times newspaper ... the image is on the Milaca Schools Webpage ... the kick-off is planned for Tuesday afternoon ...
On Friday, our class tried on our new t-shirts (currently sitting in our cubbies, waiting for Tuesday ...)

LOVE these kids!!! |
Our school continues to strive for a bully-free, safe place to learn. It has been a project in process for years. Seven years ago, we adopted Second Step to be used in class meetings to teach students social skills and offer class meetings to develop community. We have school-wide expectations. We have Passport Training to teach the expectations. Last year, our school had White-Out-Wednesdays (W.O.W.). Milaca Schools is serious about having a safe learning environment. In June, paid for by a grant, our own Mrs. Stupar, Mrs. Bell from the high school, members from the Milaca Pearl Crisis Center, including school board member, Judy Pearson attended an Olweus Bully Prevention Training in New Mexico. They planned, prepared, and organized throughout the summer. In August, teachers and staff started our Olweus training. As the year progressed, our lunchroom staff, custodians, bus drivers, and community members participated in training too. The training continued on workshop days throughout the fall, in anticipation of our January kick-off!
I am so PROUD to be part of a school and community that values a safe place for students! We don't always have the answers. We may make mistakes. We have a plan, a commitment to our students, and it is a place to start.
