Technology

We are immersed in technology at the end of February. During Communications, we are in the computer lab, typing out our autobiographies. We will be printing them and creating a self portrait.

During Flex Reading with Ms. Leom, her students are extending their T-Rex learning by researching about individual dinosaurs. Students are using books and iPads to answer questions and gather facts. Students will write paragraph about what they learn. After editing, students will write out their final draft using a special dinosaur final draft paper. For students who finish early and are interested in further enrichment, they will have an opportunity to create a QR Code for their project. The QR Code step is available to ALL of Ms. Leom's flex students, and all the flex students received the information to be successful. The QR Code step will be an extra credit learning opportunity.

In Social Studies, Mr. Greninger's class is working on their Midwest State Projects, a "State Graphic". (Ms. Leom's students will have their opportunity in three weeks). Students are using books and the iPads to research their Midwest State. All students in Social Studies also have the opportunity to use a QR code as an enrichment opportunity for their state project as well.

It is fun to see students engaged and interested in their learning. Students have steps to follow for their learning. They ask relevant questions and determine what details they want to include. We continue to use the same network searches (links found in the Kurth Media Center on the Milaca Schools Webpage), and it is exciting to see our students navigate independently. Many students are making connections to what we have talked about previously ... vocabulary words ... skills they learned in Communications to check their spelling has relevance in Social Studies ... learning about the states, resources, and landforms in Social Studies is a connection in their dinosaur research ... at times Ms. Leom feels like she is part of a tennis match, connecting with individual students as they continue to make connections and share their excitement in their learning.
