Like Finland

One of the basics of teaching, is founded in the idea of embracing change, even when it is often something that some expert teacher did before. Teachers are constantly striving to be better, to improve, to find out what works for someone else, and apply it locally. We want our students to be successful, and we don't mind the time to work to figure it out.

This year, the fourth grade teachers are doing a book study on the book, "Teach Like Finland" by Timothy Walker.

We are trying out the various ideas and strategies. One idea we tried out last week, to take a break between learning. We took a wide loop through the hallway.

It might look a little different in Finland, because according to the book, students go outside with other students watching over them, while the teachers visit in the teacher's lounge ... like all good ideas, we take the best parts of the ideas for us, and make it work.
