Maude Hart Lovelace is a Minnesota author who passed away in the early 1980s. She is best known for her Betsy-Tacy series. In her memory, a book award was created in her honor. There are two divisions, grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. There are some titles that overlap the two divisions. Students are invited to read any three books in their grade level division, then in the Spring, they are invited to vote on what title wins the award.
Ms. Leom worked with Mrs. Vickers, our elementary media specialist to find funds to purchase copies of the books.
Students are invited to eat lunch in Ms. Leom's room one day a month to talk about the books they are reading. We had our first meeting on Tuesday December 12th. Twenty-seven students came to lunch. There were several students who are reading and chose to eat in the lunch room, which works too.
