Book Projects

Ms. Leom's Reading Flex Students are beginning Book Projects. Our entire flex class time today was sharing the information and going over the expectations.

Why Book Projects?
Students are:
* reading books
* talking about books
* exploring new genres
* considering new bokos
* developing confidence
* developing organization and time management skills
* developing speaking skills
* developing their summarizing skills
* showcasing their own creativity, interests, talents, and gifts
* developing their listening skills
* having the opportunity to talk about books and their ideas with their families and friends

Details:
Who: Ms. Leom's fourth grade Reading Flex Students
What: read an historical fiction and complete a project at home to present to Reading Flex class
When: November (approval due Friday November 7 and project due Monday December 1)
Where: work on at home
Project choices: memory box, picture book, postcards, scrapbook

Packets of information were sent home with each student today. Copies of the information are also available on the Leom Planner Blog. Please note, in fourth grade, a "poster" is not a project. We also had a in-depth discussion that "book projects" does not mean a trip to a craft store and retail store and needing extensive supplies. Students may talk to Ms. Leom about materials.

You can check out some projects presented today in Mrs. Prose's room at Conferences as you exit the Big Playground Doors. Book Projects have been a fourth grade tradition for over a decade. Many fourth grade students and their parents have commented about the skills learned completing book projects have prepared them and been applied for learning in later grades, church events, community and civic activities, athletics, college, and even career situations.
