Ice Cream Social

At Milaca Elementary, we work hard to be proactive in keeping students safe. We implemented the Olweus Anti-Bullying Curriculum throughout the district, training our entire staff; including our food service workers, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, custodians, teachers, and administrators. We also take the opportunity of April's National Child Abuse Prevention Month to talk about different forms of child abuse, how to be an advocate and ask for help, and help others. These are not easy topics. It would be "nice" to be in a bubble and not talk about them, but we know statistically that we have members of our school and community who experience bullying and abuse, and when we don't become aware, we become by-standers (a term from Olweus), supporting the on going isolation of these issues.

Students who find all ten blue ribbons throughout Milaca in the month of April, outside of school hours, are invited with their adult to school for an Ice Cream Social. Our local Pearl Crisis Center, local law enforcement, our school social workers, and more work very hard to make this event happen.
