Daily Language

Today, we introduced Daily Language. This will be our morning work (8:05-8:20) until the iPads arrive.

Most students have experience with Daily Language from previous school years. In fourth grade, our goals are:
- we will apply editing marks
- we will identify and label the type of sentence
- we will identify and label the subject and predicate
- we will practice and develop other related grammar skills; such as: parts of speech, figurative language, punctuation, and more

How it works. Students grab a packet for the whole week. They work on it before announcements. There is an editing key in the back of their planner to use as a learning tool. When we begin Communications, the first thing we do, is go over DL (Daily Language). ALL the corrections and answers are on the board, and students are ENCOURAGED to make corrections on their papers as we discuss it in class. At the end of the week, the students turn in their DL. It is graded. ALL students should get 100%. ALL the answers were provided in class. All students are invited to grab a clipboard and sit on the carpet in front of the white board if they need to be closer. IN class as Ms. Leom is going over it, students may also look at their classmate's papers since all the answers are written on the board and it wouldn't be copying at that point. If your student is missing points on this assignment, often it means students aren't participating or using their time wisely. Students who arrive late or are absent may connect with a classmate and visit Ms. Leom at Recess for clarification. All the answers won't be given in this situation, but support and help are available.

Daily Language is available on the Leom Planner blog, upcoming Edmodo, and the school website fourth grade page.

You may notice the use of red for subject and predicate. We haven't learned about it yet. Ms. Leom just shared it as an introduction of learning to come.

Next week, we will begin Week 1 Tuesday on Monday. Friday is Homecoming, and we will have a fun Milaca Wolves morning work option for that morning!
