Ms. Leom is in her fourth class for her Masters of Literacy degree. When you take a class, and each teacher tells you that "reading websites" is the new literacy skill that teachers must teach ... you make it a priority to add that to your classroom.
We are using Severe Weather 101 (a link) for our website. It is fun to hear the conversations students are having as they can move about the learning. There are some key ideas that we are developing, then students have the opportunity to drive their learning by what interests them and the connections or disconnections they are making. The images show students working independently, but it many students are working with partners. It is fascinating to see students who get so engrossed in their interests, that they work next to their partner and pursue their own learning, just checking in from time to time. Severe Weather is our Social Studies learning for this week and next week.
