One of the skills we need to develop is using capital letters and punctuation marks. Ms. Leom introduced a formal lesson on when we use capital letters. She also introduced using editing marks: three underlines for capital letters and a dot and circle for periods. We also learned about the upside down "v", pronounced a "carrot" that we use to indicate where we would add a detail into a tight space. We worked on the first example together in class. Ms. Leom even wrote out the steps: 1. Read 2. Edit / Plan and 3. Rewrite with capitals and periods.
We need more work on these skills. Students may rework to improve their score. Our goal is to automatically include capital letters and punctuation without thought as we write.
