Summarizing

One way we get the most of our lessons, we work to make time at the end of our lessons to review what we read. It isn't on the lesson plan yet ... but we when we read a longer biography in our genre study, we took time to summarize George Washington's life. Stopping at the end of every section before the next heading was a strategy that worked well for us.

Students are invited to summarize what they read, by breaking it into chunks ... by section ... page ... chapter. This is an important skill in reading, to be able to retell what you read in your own words.
