Starting Cursive

On the first week of October, after the initial review of our manuscript (printed) letters and learning the four strokes: under curve, down curve, over curve, and slant, we were ready to start learning Cursive.

Ms. Leom explicitly teaches each letter. She shows us where to write the letters on the lines. She gives us the language to form the letter. "i" is "Start on the pink base line. Undercurve to the middle line. Retrace. Slant. Under curve. Lift. Dot above the i, in the middle." She models at least twice. Then we trace and recite the path with her. Next, we review the "4 s's": size, shape, slant, and spacing. Ms. Leom makes some common errors, and we help identify the mistakes, using the 4 s's. Then it is time for us to work. We are expected to erase any wild letters and at the end, circle our best effort.
