Tangrams

One skill we had for Math Lesson 4.3 was tangrams. Ms. Leom had an unexpected appointment and needed a substitute teacher. He did a great job, and we are thankful for his time and qualifications. The class wasn't able to get to the tangram lesson, so when Ms. Leom returned, we made it a priority on Monday.

First, we read about tangrams and their history.

Then we cut out the basic shapes.

Next, we practiced forming our own tangram shapes.

Tangrams are beneficial for students. It causes them to s t r e t c h their brains and turn around the shapes to expand their spatial sense and thinking. It can be frustrating for students. After an initial period that welcomes some frustration, that helps them figure out the parts that confuse them, tangrams become a great activity for students to work together, problem solve, and figure out.
