Reader's Theater

This week, we are working on our reading fluency. Our skill is "varying pace". It means we read faster or slower according to the punctuation and what we are reading. We would read exciting text at a faster pace, and if the text had characters experiencing something confusing, we might slow down.

You do. (Teacher). We do. (Teacher and student). I do. (Student). This is a process we use to develop student skills. Each day, we try to move students further towards independence in applying the skills.

Today, we are reading Eleanor and Marian Readers Theater to develop our varied pacing skills. This is what on of our class's practice looked like:

Students are working on these skills in their flex groups too.

Ask your fourth grader to tell you about these amazing women, Eleanor Roosevelt and Marian Anderson, the women who inspired our Reader's Theater.
