Character Traits

Our lesson today was character traits.

We started with learning why we learn about character traits (character traits help us understand the characters and more about what we read). Next, we learned what character traits are (words that describe a person). Then we learned how we figure out character traits (we look at what characters say, do, and think).

Ms. Leom reread her favorite book, Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester. As she read, she took notes on the board, showing how her brain was organizing the three different characters and what they did, said, and thought. In our binders, we have a pink character tool we can use to support our work. We looked at what characters said, did, and thought, and tried to find words that described the characters.

Lastly, we took some time to read and study our character traits tool. We thought about character traits that describe us, our families, and people we know.

Character Traits are important when we read and in life. We will talk about character traits all year long. So exciting to start this important discussion with the basics on the fifth day of school!
