Our first reading lesson was about our brains as we read.
As readers, our brains need to be engaged before we read, during reading, and after we read.
We used a K-W-L Chart and a Web to model our brains at work. In a K-W-L Chart, before we read, we write down what we Know and Want to Know.
When we finished reading, we went back to our K-W-L Chart, and we added what we Learned.
We reviewed the entire process.
Our brains are busy before we read, during reading, and after we read. We might organize the information in different ways, and we are going to learn some strategies for organizing our thinking throughout the year.
The person who is doing the talking and the writing is the person who is doing the learning. To start, Ms. Leom is modeling what her brain does. She is giving us some vocabulary and tools, Soon, students will be doing the work independently. We have a few steps to go to get there.
