Ms. Leom shared her favorite books today and what makes them her favorite books. Sometimes the books we read have an idea that doesn't fit with our family rules. In the book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, Dr. Seuss's first book, the author isn't very respectful toward girls nor does he represent women in the book. We talked about how as readers we want to be aware of our family values. These can be great conversations to have with our adults.
In Tacky the Penguin, Ms. Leom loves how "Tacky is an odd bird, but a nice bird to have around." Sometimes when we are true to ourselves, we can feel odd and like we don't belong. In our classroom, there is a welcome place for everyone ... no matter your skills in marching, diving, singing ... and more. We are here to learn, and we welcome all abilities and interests.
