Read to Partner

One of our reading routines is to read to partner. We went through the directions for read to partner. This is part of Daily 5, a reading routine students have been using since kindergarten. Ms. Leom has a cup of thicker popsicle sticks. She randomly chose partners. Students practiced Turn and Talk.

We should sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee (next to each other) if we are sharing one copy of a book. If there are two copies, we can face our partner. We read the title and the author. Our books have a shorter text per page, so we take turns reading a page. We talked about reading names that we might not know, and how we don't spend too much time to figuring it out. We read it, then move on. We also talked about how we patiently support a partner who might pause on a word. When the partner asks for help, we can assist.

I loved the part where some partners finished, and they picked up a new book, without directions, and returned to reading!
