Today, we looked at what do you do when you are reading and the main idea is NOT clearly stated. We learned, you record the details! Ms. Leom used the poster on the board, and each student had his or her own copy.

In Ms. Leom's Flex Reading Groups we continue to work on asking questions, and Main Idea and Supporting Details. Students have a journal that they record their daily independent work (when they are not working in Ms. Leom's group). We write the date, the book we are reading, we make a prediction, we write any questions we had as before, during, and after we read, we answer the questions as we read, and at the end we check our predictions. We write a "+" when our prediction happened, a "check" when our prediction is only partially accurate, and a "-" when our prediction didn't happen.
All students were in groups today, based on the book they are reading. Each group is practicing our Main Idea and Supporting Details using their flex books.
I really appreciate the scaffolding of this curriculum. It starts out with very direct instruction and adds new details and student independence. I'm seeing every student experience success. I like how we are using and practicing our skills over many different texts.
