Our first bell rings at 8:05, and students enter the building for class. Students eating breakfast may enter at 7:45. Our morning work between about 8:10 and when class starts is Daily Language. It is packet that students complete one half page daily section a day. At the start of class, Ms. Leom goes over the answers on the board. If there was something students didn't know or made a mistake, they are encouraged to erase it and fix it. It gives us an opportunity to work on editing, grammar, and every Friday there is a different specific skill. Even when Ms. Leom's Smart Board isn't working (the light bulb burned out), we make adjustments and go over the answers on the white board.

Friday's Daily Language learning |

First, we clarified the different terms. |

Then, we were able to answer the examples |
We talk a lot about "clarifying" (making things clear) when we read. Ms. Leom does many think-alouds throughout the learning day to model the strategy of what her brain is doing to be a successful learner.
All students can be successful for Daily Language if they use their time, make an effort, and participate in class.
