Spelling Tests

When we take the Spelling Test, Ms. Leom reads the entire test to us. If there is a section that might be confusing, she will even do an example on the board to model the expectation.

One of the activities on the test was the determine the word, out of four choices, that didn't fit with the others. Students often focus on the basic sorting, by items; such as, "foods". For a spelling test, we need to focus on the spelling pattern. So she modeled an example before we started that section.

The last question on the test EVERY week wants to know how learning the pattern will help the student. Our answer is ALWAYS "it will help me spell words correctly". Ms. Leom modeled the correct way to answer the question. For students who struggle to write and copy, they were invited to write the basic option, what was underlined. For students who strive to challenge themselves, or copying from the board is doable, they were invited to write the formal, best answer response.

Ms. Leom will only give this answer one more week. Then students are expected to be successful on their own. Please also note, the answer is listed on the goal board, each week ...
