Rule 1

Ms. Leom's homeroom has started our Olweus meetings. In our weekly plan, it is supposed to happen on an exact day and time. In reality, that doesn't always work. Our safe school is a priority, and we will fit it in!

This week our focus was on rule number 1:

This is a big deal. We talk about how bullying is usually includes an unbalance of power ... is repeated over time ... and the details of what that might include.

Then we talked about our "game plan" ... what do you do if it is happening.

Step one. Try to deal with it yourself. We called on our experience with Friendship Girl at the pepfest.
1. Stand up for yourself:
- stand tall
- look the person in the eye

2. State what you want.
I want you to stop  ...

3. Tell how you feel.
I feel ...

4. Walk away.

Sometimes that doesn't work ... or sometimes you need help.
Tell an adult. Tell an adult at school. Tell an adult at home.

Sometimes it appears that adults aren't acting on your concern. Often, adults need to work within confidentiality and respect for others. If the action keeps happening, tell another adult.

We are serious about providing a safe environment at our school. It can take some time to resolve issues. We are committed to the time and effort it takes for a resolution.

Rule 1. We will not bully others.
