Today was our Olweus Kick-Off. Milaca Schools are dedicated to being a safe place for all learners. One of our efforts is using the Olweus program to train all of our staff, to teach all of our students, and to use common language and expectations for our learning community. This is our third year of using Olweus to prevent and actively work to keep every student safe. Each year, we have a kick-off to begin.
First, I LOVE how "kick-off" fits our spelling pattern of a hyphenated compound word!!
Our first year, a helicopter landed on our football field and Captain Olweus rode away to fight bullying in other places. Last year, Captain Olweus arrived on a motorcycle with our new hero, Friendship Girl. This year ...
The weather sent us into the Main Gyms. The High School PepBand, led by Mr. Nelson, welcomed us into the gym.
Our Principal, Mr. Voshell welcomed us and introduced us to our local heroes ...
Friendship Girl and Captain Olweus
They introduced us to our very own, sixth grade teacher by day, Mr. Rademacher, and fire fighter by night ...
Then we met the new hero of our Olweus friends, Tucker Turtle. Tucker Turtle will be working with the preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students. He will teach us how to control our selves and how to be a friend.
Fifth grade teacher and Milaca High School's Head Football Coach, Mr. Cory Anderson introduced our special guest, former professional football player for the Minnesota Vikings, linebacker, E.J. Henderson.
E.J.'s message was education, responsibility, respect, citizenship, and leadership.
Then we reviewed the four Olweus Rules
E.J. Henderson stayed and spent special time with third grade teacher's Mrs. Smith and fifth grade teacher, Mr. Follmuth's classes after the assembly.
It was a great kick-off! We look forward to digging deeper into our Olweus learning next week!
