Our Classroom Mission

Ms. Leom's Homeroom class began working on our classroom mission statement today. There are just not enough hours in the day to do everything we want to do!! We looked at our five classroom rules:
* Responsibility
* Honesty
* Citizenship
* Respect
* Follow Your Family Rules

We talked about examples of each.

Then students worked in groups to develop their own example with a picture. We shared our ideas with the class. Then we began to develop our class mission statement. It is not complete ...

The school expectations of respect, honesty, citizenship, responsibility, and following your family rules matter, because everyone knows what the rules are, and it keeps you safe.

We need to add what our class values:
- using our manners
- dealing with disagreements
- doing your work
- doing your best
- keeping your promise
- telling the truth
- protecting the environment and taking care of our learning space
- helping each other
- clean up after ourselves

We will finish this up in a class meeting tomorrow. Every year, I am always anxious to turn this learning over to students. Will I have the words and language to steer students in a direction that will help us build a healthy learning community? Every year, I am reminded at how amazing our Milaca Community Students are, and they are capable. Our classroom mission statement will be added in red after the title of the blog in the coming days. Look for the change (from last year's mission statement to this year's statement).
