Vocabulary Notebooks

There is always SO MUCH to do to begin another school year. Today, we set up our Vocabulary Notebooks. This is a new learning opportunity for our fourth grade students. We are going to be teaching Greek and Latin prefixes, root words, and suffixes. It is a very clear and organized program, and we hope it will help develop a foundation for students to decode words.

It was so much fun working with students. The part that was the best, when students made mistakes! Yes. Seriously. Our classroom functions when we feel safe to "not know", figure out what didn't make sense, and then fix it. We will work together. We are still in the beginning stages of forming our learning community. Setting up our Vocabulary Notebooks, and using glue sticks, which are very forgiving when you need to remove materials and reapply it somewhere else. Students did such a great job following directions. The pictures reflect both Ms. Leom and Mr. Greninger's homeroom students.

Another part of Vocabulary Notebooks and our Greek and Latin learning is it offers students the opportunities to color, cut, and paste. There will be flaps, and writing. You will notice in some of the pictures, students are able to stand as they learn. We are flexible. Our students are individuals. We like using a variety of techniques to engage our many different learning styles.

Today was the set up. It was a good day to talk and get to know our classmates. Soon, we will begin to investigate word parts and their meanings. Please check back to see more images of our learning!
