We started by brainstorming what students do for success.
Then, students were given their scores for MCA, the Minnesota Comprehension Assessment, given every April, and and MAP, NWEA computerized assessment that looks at student progress given in the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
We talked about what the four labels mean: exceed, meets, partially meets, and does not meet. We talked about reasonable goals. Students determined their learning goals for fourth grade. They made a plan about what they will do to meet their goals, using the brainstorming we did earlier in class.
We want ALL of our students to learn and make gains this school year. Teachers can plan the perfect lessons, be prepared, and share their experience, and that helps, but real success happens when each student takes responsibility and is an engaged learner, working for success. That is our class goal, for every student to be a successful learner.
